What is the best way for a big fat man like me to lose weight?

I am 40, 6′1″ and now up to 270lbs since the holidays. I live in Florida so am often out with family, friends, and co-workers at a pool, the beach, or on a boat where I have to remove my shirt in front of others. I workout so have some shape/muscle but have a big hairy belly.
